In today’s world, communication is characterized by a trend of growing “hunger” for information. The media itself, such as the Internet or TV-on-demand, tend to generate such a need by introducing various social networks, systems for interchange of multimedia recordings (documentaries, audio feeds, digital images or video). This trend is predominant at an individual level, where a user communicates with the rest of the world using some form of mass communication (PC, tablet, smart phone, and/or others). Implied under ‘others’ are public servers “loaded” with a large quantity of various information or other individual users equipped with such equipment. In any case, this communication is a two-way process, i.e. interactive.
Such a trend is not bypassing traditional media technologies which are in essence passive, such as standard TV programming, projection halls and movie theaters which visitors enter in order to watch or hear the content being presented to them.
The technology defined by the DIM standard, introduces a full feedback loop, interaction in the fullest sense of the word between the individual in the audience and the media content being transmitted.
In essence, the proposed technical concept provides feedback, i.e. interaction between the content being presented <> viewer (participant). We use state-of-the-art technology that doesn’t require any large investments in terms of hardware or software.
As for equipment, all the user needs is a screen with an audio system for displaying system content and messages, as well an internet connection for linking individual units of viewers-participants such as laptops, tablets or smart phones. The participants carry these peripheral units with them, as these are their own possessions. The software part consists of a WEB based application or an ANDROID and iOS operational systems application. The user’s application is downloaded to their personal device and is executed from a specialized server in a cloud environment. The system part of the application for the system administrator, is activated from a separate computer from which the course and results of program execution are administered, which is processed based on the user’s preferences. For example, an evaluation is made to determine which participant gave the most correct answers and the winner is announced or a list of the highest achievers is formed and displayed on the main screen, as well as on the screens of personal devices. A statistical data processing of answers can be performed and based on those results further course of projection can be altered. A data processing option could be a full specification of each participant’s answer in order to grade performance. The specification may include response time if this parameter is relevant to the user, etc.
